What these terms cover

They cover the cogshift.io website, the contact form on it, and — as they launch — Cogshift accounts and config backup. That is the service.

They do not try to cover the model providers you point the router at. Your relationship with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or anyone else is between you and them, on their terms.

What actually exists today

Cogshift is being built in the open, and the site describes where it is going as well as where it is. To be exact about it:

• The downloadable router is in the workshop. It is not available yet.
• Hosted tiers and enterprise are described on the site but are not yet offered for sale.
• Accounts and config backup are not open yet. The terms for them are written here in advance so they are not a surprise.

Nothing on the site is an offer to sell anything until the tier in question actually launches with a price attached. Descriptions of what is coming are statements of intent, not commitments to ship on a date.

Your account

When accounts launch, you will sign in with Google or GitHub. Sign in as yourself, with an identity you are entitled to use — the account is attached to whoever that provider says you are.

You are responsible for the devices you register and for the machines you sign in from. If a device is lost or stolen, revoke it. We cannot tell a legitimate session on your laptop from someone else’s.

The encrypted backup

Config backup is encrypted on your device before it is uploaded, with a key derived from a passphrase we never receive. This is the point of it, and it has one hard consequence you need to accept before you use it:

We cannot recover your backup. If you lose your passphrase — and your recovery codes, once those launch — the backup is gone permanently. There is no reset link, no support route, no key escrow. What we hold is ciphertext we have no way to read.

Losing the backup does not affect the configuration on your own machine. The local copy is yours and is untouched by anything that happens to the encrypted one.

Using the service sensibly

Do not attack the service, break into other people’s accounts, or use it to do something illegal. Do not hammer our endpoints — automated traffic well beyond normal use costs real money and degrades the service for everyone else.

We may suspend or close an account that does any of that. Where it is reasonable to do so first, we will tell you what the problem is and give you a chance to stop.

Your data

How we handle data is set out in the privacy policy, and it is part of this agreement. The short version: your prompts never reach us, the account record holds nothing usage-derived, and the backup is ciphertext we cannot read.

No warranty

Cogshift is at beta stage and is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose, and we do not promise that a routing decision it makes will be the one you would have made.

Nothing here is meant to exclude a right you have under law that cannot be excluded. Where local consumer law gives you a guarantee we cannot disclaim, you keep it.

Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cogshift is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost data, or the cost of model provider usage incurred through your own configuration.

Again: to the extent the law does not permit a limitation, it does not apply.

Ending it

You can stop using the service at any time. Once accounts launch, deleting your account is one action and it is immediate and permanent — the account record, every encrypted backup, every session and every device registration go with it, as described in the privacy policy.

We may close an account for the reasons in using the service sensibly, or if we discontinue the service. If we ever shut a hosted part of Cogshift down, we will give notice and time to get your configuration out.

Governing law

These terms, and any dispute arising from them, are governed by the law applicable to Cogshift as its operator. Nothing in this section removes a protection that the law where you live gives you as a consumer, including the right to bring a claim in your local courts where that right applies.

Changes to these terms

These terms will change as parts of Cogshift launch — several sections here describe things that do not exist yet, and they will be rewritten in the present tense when they do. The date at the top of the page is the date of the current version.

If a change materially affects an account you hold, we will tell you rather than quietly reissue the page. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
